Vision Recently, Horticultural methods have developed greatly, especially at the academic level, horticulture departments have become a part of many universities in the world. Furthermore, at the technical level, expansion has increased with the establishment of plastic-glass greenhouses, shade houses, and refrigerated fruit and vegetable stores. Methods have been adopted to increase production and improve quality in plants through tissue culture techniques, horticultural plant breeding, and other agriculture techniques and Covered desert agriculture, which provided the local market with horticultural products outside the traditional season and with good varieties. The department created units, namely the palm research unit and the medicinal plants unit, which organize the oyster mushroom project and the project for cultivation and propagation of medicinal plants. Heading the department seeks to truly contribute to serving the community in Babylon and Iraq in general by teaching students the basic sciences and ethics of scientific research that students need through the various sciences related to agriculture aspects, developing agricultural skills in different fields, and enhancing the capabilities of graduates according to international standards to meet the market requirements.
Mission 1- Preparing a generation of youths specialized in horticultural fields by a word them a bachelor’s degree in agricultural/horticultural sciences.
2- Preparing agricultural scientific cadres that have academic and research specialization who can effectively contribute to the evaluation and development of agriculture or in the field of developing higher education and scientific research through granting a master’s degree in horticultural sciences.
3- Participation in scientific seminars and conferences, in addition to the participation of department lecturers in various agricultural activities that are held by the Ministry of Agriculture.
